Installation

A prerequisite for using SEILAPLAN is QGIS, a freely available geographic information system for viewing and analyzing geodata.
It is recommended to use a current Long-Term Support (LTS) version of QGIS and to update it regularly. SEILAPLAN can be used with QGIS version 3 (>3.22) and is compatible with the upcoming version 4. The plugin can run on Linux, Windows, and OS X.

Steps to install SEILAPLAN:

  1. Download and install QGIS.
  2. Open the Plugin Manager in QGIS: Menu → Plugins → Manage and Install Plugins.
  3. In the All tab, search for “SEILAPLAN.”
  4. Select the entry and click Install Plugin.
  5. The SEILAPLAN icon should appear in the toolbar. If it does not, right-click on the toolbar and enable Plugin Toolbar.

Updates

If an update is available for the plugin, this is displayed via the puzzle piece icon at the bottom right of the screen. All updates are listed and described here in the changelog on GitHub.

Obtaining elevation data for Switzerland

Since spring 2021, the Swiss Federal Office of Topography swisstopo has made very accurate elevation data available for free download. The data can be conveniently downloaded in QGIS with the QGIS plugin Swiss Geo Downloader developed by us.

The plugin is installed in the Extensions > Manage and install extensions menu (click on the All or Not installed tab on the left). Enter Swiss Geo Downloader in the search field and select the plugin. Click Install extension at the bottom right.

After successful installation, the plugin can be opened in the toolbar or in the Web menu.
